Shields, Lawrence F. - Lieut

VERMONT.

BRATTLEBORO.

A telegram yesterday morning announced the death in Rutland, Mass., of Lieut. Lawrence F. Shields, for many years employed by the Estry organ company, and 20 years lieutenant in Fuller battery. About a year ago he removed with his family to Boston, where he worked at his trade until obliged to go to the hospital in Rutland suffering with consumption. Soon after his oldest son, about 17, was stricken with the same disease and taken to the same institution, though the latest reports favor his recovery. Lieut. Shields was a veteran of the rebellion, having served in the Union army four years and in 20 battles, including Gettysburg and Bull Run. He first enlisted in 1861 in the 37th New York Infantry and afterward in a Massachusetts regiment, being in Kearney’s division. He was a member of Sedgwick Grand Army post at Brattleboro. Besides a widow he leaves three children.
