Kerr, John
DIED---In U. S. Hospital, near Washington, D. C., April 4th, 1863, of small pox, Mr. JOHN KERR, of Ebenezer, Indiana County, Pa., in the 27th years of his age; a member of Co. B, 56th Reg't P. V.
Mr. Kerr died far from home, among strangers. Nothing is known concerning his death, except the simple announcement of he fact to his commanding officer. The country has lost a good citizen, a brave soldier, and a noble patriot. Loved ones at home mourn for a dutiful son, a kind and affectionate brother. They sorrow not as those who have no hope. He comrades testify to the fact that, in the midst of all the difficulties and temptations by which he was surrounded, he led a life of piety and prayer; thus leaving his friends the comforting thought that, having been faithful to the Captain of his salvation, fought the good fight of faith, and finished his course, he has gone to receive that crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous Judge, shall give to all who love his appearing.
