Osgood, W. D.

OSGOOD KILLED.

Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 9.—Quite a stir was caused among the students of the University of Pennsylvania when it was reported that the famous half-back of the football team, W. D. Osgood, who has for several months been fighting for Cuban liberty, had been killed by the Spaniards.

The detailed account was plausible, and was to the effect that Osgood, who had been promoted to the rank of major in the cavalry, had led a charge of his men against a fortified position strongly held by the Spaniards.

He had fought his way through the Spanish ranks, and at last had fallen exhausted from his saddle and been hacked to pieces.
