Burns, Frank
SHOT IN FAIRMOUNT PARK
Ex-Service Man Wounded in Fight With Two Highwaymen
Two negro highwaymen early yesterday shot and seriously wounded an overseas veteran and robbed his companion of $15 in Fairmount Park near Belmont Mansion.
Frank Burns, 21 years old, 5037 Brown street, the former service man, was taken to the University Hospital in a critical condition.
Burns when he was accosted by the bandits was in company with William Morris. As they passed a clump of trees in the rear of Horticultural Hall an armed negro appeared, while another yelled, “Hand over your money!?
Morris was forced to hand over his money, but Burns fought back and was shot. The bullet entered his left side near the heart.
