Bob Engstrom Captured In Italian Campaign

Former Local Boy Reported Missing is Prisoner in Germany

Good news came to Grove City this week in the report that “Bob” Engstrom, reported missing on the Italian front, is a prisoner of the Germans.
The news came in a letter directly from him to his parents, Mr. And Mrs. A. G. Engstrom, now of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Local friends were notified yesterday.
Pfc. Robert D. Engstrom was reported missing in action on January 22nd, while serving with the American Army in Italy. No details were given in the letter, except that he is a prison camp in Germany. He wrote that almost immediately, the American Red Cross had contacted him at the camp and supplied him with certain comforts.
Overseas since last October, young Engstrom took part in the Italian campaign, serving with the infantry. He entered the service in February, 1943. Due to an unusual number of transfers, he had only rarely been in touch by letter with his family and friends.
The family lived here [Grove City, Pa] for a time, operating “Dad’s” Restaurant. “Bob” was a popular member of the 1941 staff of the J. C. Penney Co. store here. He has many friends here who will be glad to hear that he is safe.
