JOHN C. VAN ZANDT was born in Syracuse, New York, and by occupation was a painter ; he enlisted August 11th, 1862, aged twenty-nine years, and, participating in the battle of Harper's Ferry, was discharged for physical disability at Washington, District Columbia, February 1st, 1864. Co. E, 126th Regiment Infantry New York, Disaster, struggle, triumph. Dedicated to the 126th Regiment of New York State Volunteers, 1870. [Page 494 of the book read John C.
