GENERAL STEWART DEAD.

Was Most Notable Character Among Civil War Survivors.

Biloxi, Miss., Aug. 20.---Gen. Alexander P. Stewart, ranking officer of the Confederate army, and last, save one, of the lieut-generals appointed during the civil war of the confederacy, died suddenly this morning at Biloxi, thirty-five days prior to his eighty-seventh birthday. The death of Gen. Stewart removes the most notable characters among the civil war survivors.
